A Public Art + Landscape Project
Inspired by Terry Fox
on the Toronto waterfront

The Legacy Art Project

The Legacy Art Project is a citizen-funded public space initiative dedicated to the spirit of courage, determination, and action that Terry Fox embodied.

We are thrilled to announce the winning design for Legacy Art Project... inspired by Terry Fox. Introducing 'We Are Shaped by the Obstacles We Face' by Jon Sasaki and DTAH. From the installation’s west end, what appears is a single figure – the iconic silhouette of Fox, mid-stride.

Rooted in the legacy of Terry Fox's power to inspire, we see this project honouring our collective heritage, looking to the future, and being an icon of shared values. We envision a place where future generations will be galvanized into inspired action to continue Terry’s important work and altruistic spirit.

This Toronto waterfront project will reflect both Terry’s values and that of our city's research community: hope, innovation, inspiration and great optimism. Because Terry stressed his fundraising should benefit innovative cancer research, the Legacy Art Project will move out of the ordinary into the innovative and exceptional in its design.

Legacy Art Project Toronto and its working group include diverse members of Toronto’s community from business and civic leaders to philanthropists, planners, architects and dedicated volunteers.

This public space project is built on the spirit of courage, determination, and action that Terry Fox embodied.
